Greetings from Combsberry Inn, Oxford, Md. As the seasons turn and Fall makes it way to the Eastern Shore of Maryland there is an exciting event happening at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum located in St.Michaels, Md, a hop skip and jump away from Oxford. This event features car collectors from all over the world. On display at the event are motorcars made between 1900 and 1942, known as the Golden Age of Motoring.
Early cars were easily identified as horseless carriages because they resembled early carriages powered by engines. This made the car a utilitarian vehicle but that was just the beginning of the consumers' romance with cars. The term Concours d'Elegance dates back to 17th-cenury France when aristocrats would parade their horse-drawn carriages in the parks of Paris. It was the French who coined the term automobile. Competition evolved from the performance of the car versus the overall appearance of it.
Combsberry Bed and Breakfast easily identifies with the evolution of utility blending with elegance. This elegant waterfront estate was established in 1730 and the history dates back to a picture with one of the original families posing with an original car of that period. We are located on 30 acres of historic, waterfront property that blends old time hospitality, luxurious bedrooms with fireplaces and gourmet breakfasts.
As you plan your visit to Maryland's Eastern Shore on Sept 26, 2010 to attent the fourth annual St. Micheals Concours d'Elegance, be sure to book your private suite, overlooking a cove filled with geese, to ensure a perfect weekend.
